Tapio Wirkkala (1915-1985)

Iittala glassworks, Finland.
Blown green glass with applied neck ring.
Engraved TW.
Height : 22,5 cm.

Iittala’s bottle 2508 was designed by Tapio Wirkkala in 1959. The brown glass bottle can be used as a vase or a carafe, or just an interior design element.
The mouth-blown glass bottles were made in two different sizes and they were in production from 1959 to 1968. The bottles were made of brown, clear, green, blue, and dark red glass.
2015 marked 100 years since the birth of Tapio Wirkkala. In celebration of the anniversary year, the glass bottles returned to Iittala’s collection as a limited edition. The collection was numbered from 1 to 2015, and they were engraved with a text “TW 100 Iittala 2015”. Anniversary year bottles were produced in turquoise, green, brown and grey.
