Design in 1965 for Fritz Hansen, Denmark. Aluminium frame with leather upholstery (reupholstered). Foil label. Dimensions: 60 x 64 x 127 cm. Note : The original version of the Oxford armchair was designed in 1963 for the professors at St. Catherine's College in Oxford. The chair's extra tall back both served as a symbol of prestige and created a space of its own. These professors chairs later evolved into the Oxford series introduced in 1965. In spite of initial protests & uproar over the commission of a foreign architect, Arne Jacobsen received an honorary doctorate from Oxford, upon his completion of the project. -
